Space Environment Monitor-2→   Measurements of Earth's radiation belts and charged particle fluxes at satellite altitude. Provide awareness of solar and terrestrial anomalies and warnings of solar wind occurrences that may damage or impair satellite functionality.

Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet Radiometer→   Measurements of solar irradiance and Earth radiance (backscattered solar energy) in the near ultraviolet spectrum.

Solid State Recorder (SSR) and Digital Tape Recorder→   Complete recording/ data storage systems that store selected sensor data during each orbit for subsequent playback



European Instruments

ASCAT

The Advanced Scatterometer → A radar instrument monitors near-surface wind speed and direction over the global oceans and will follow the development of storms and hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones.

IASI

Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer → Measures infrared energy emitted by the Earth-atmosphere system in thousands of spectral channels.

GOME-2

Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 → A spectrometer that provides the capability to monitor atmospheric ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and other trace gases, in near real-time.

GRAS

Global Navigation Satellite System Receiver for Atmospheric Sounding → Provides information on vertical profiles of temperature and humidity, which are used for climate monitoring.

MHS

Microwave Humidity Sounder → Measures profiles of atmospheric humidity as well as cloud liquid water content. It provides qualitative estimates of the precipitation rate.
